The best sign I've ever seen held by a homeless man said:

"Need fuel for my Learjet."

The fact that the man was covered in COMPLETE AND UTTER FILTH only made it better.

Today, out where The Pacific Coast Highway meets Topanga Canyon I saw my second favorite sign.
It read:

"Smile, Dammit."
